Revised: December 2010AFC 1935/003: Jean Thomas American Folk Song Festival CollectionTwenty-two 12-inch discs of songs and instrumentals primarily of Kentucky performers, recorded at the American Folk Song Festival in Ashland, Kentucky, by Jean Thomas, June 1934. Includes performances by Walter Caldwell, Curtis Dartey, Volney Fraley, Edith Fitzpatrick James, Ed Morrison, and Jilson Setters. (includes AFS 287-308) (3 hours; tape copy on LWO 4872 reels 22A-23A) [catalog record]

Performers include Florence Clark, Charlie Keeton, Juanita and Carlie Williams, Lola and Walter Caldwell, Curtis Dartey, Volney Fraley, Elizabeth Fitzpatrick James, Ed Morrison, and Jilson Setters, among others. Performances include folk songs, ballads, hymns, and fiddle tunes; some performances accompanied by banjo, guitar, dulcimer, harmonica, and accordion. Includes a recording of a narrative about the custom of foot washing and other religious practices.
